This project captures the enigmatic allure of London’s burlesque party scene. Appropriating the stylistic cues of 1920’s Berlin, it sets up an atmosphere of theatrical secrecy. Games of scale evoke a feeling of playful uncertainty. Morality is suspended in the flickering shadows, and the viewer is drawn magnetically
into the frame.
The series was commissioned by Die Freche Muse; an east-end party that housed a legendary subculture within a lair of antique furniture and peeling wallpaper.
Steeped in an atmosphere of Weimar-style escapism, Cheek captures a beguiling mist of seduction, risk and after-hours promiscuity.
